Dave Turner is a singer-songwriter in the tradition of Elton John and Billy Joel but with some twists. Since discovering James McMurtry a few years ago, he counts him among his writing influences and sources of inspiration. Pandora finds similarities in Dave's music and the work of artists including Warren Zevon, The Gabe Dixon Band and Colossal Yes. Dave delivers strong melodies, a bold piano style, and soul-searching lyrics steeped in dark Americana themes.
Home is Asheville, NC. Dave performs solo and in a variety of band formats. He began playing the piano at age seven and has written songs since grade school. Enamored by the piano for as long as he can remember, he was inspired early by Elton John. He is a prolific writer of words and music, plays the piano with power and passion, and has a strong, soulful voice. His latest album, "Could Have Talked All Night," was released November 16, 2007. It features piano rock with flavors of pop, Americana, jazz & blues. The music has strong melodies and soul-searching lyrics with a powerful voice, and distinctive musical composition. These captivating songs were inspired by empty pockets and starry skies, Kentucky bourbon, late-night diners, old lovers, Blue Ridge mountains, California dreams, desperation, roadside shrines, hangovers, unsent letters, beer joints, bar buddies, staying put and getting away. In fall 2007, Dave was one of eight finalists selected from across the United States in the North Carolina Songwriters Co-op 10th Annual Song Contest with two songs from the "Could Have Talked All Night" album, "Never Meant To Stay" and "Amber River."
